Thinking About New Sources

Directions: If you have just begun looking at interviews and websites, explain how you think using these sources will help direct your research (and possibly make it more interesting?). If you have already been looking at websites and interviews, explain how you plan to integrate the sources into the larger work (your peers could benefit from your experience).

Due before Class on Monday, March 3rd.

  1. My research always starts with a web search. I use it initially to get ideas about my topic or possible interests. Using interviews is new to me, but if the interviewer and interviewee are reputable, then I think I could use them to strengthen my point. I will be using the web to find academic journals and to quote reliable statistics when writing my paper. The interviews I find relevant to my topic will provide me with a different perspective on my topic. I have found that the interviews help me broaden my knowledge and introduce me to aspects I have not thought about when writing my paper.

  2. I went directly to NPR for my interview search. I loved it. I would advise NPR because it let me search a wide variety of interviews and all of them were helpful to my topic. Also, listening to the interviews before reading them helped me get feel for the atmosphere in the interview; sort of like how you can interpret a person's tone in a phone call better than a text. I did try going to youtube as well but I didn't find that as useful.

  3. I have not really looked into websites and interviews, rather focusing on getting the rest of my book and article sources locked in. In the coming days I plan to start listening to a large number of interviews I have downloaded on my MP3 player. Not only do I feel I will find the right interview for my source, but the number of ideas I will be listening too should help me focus my paper better. From the website perspective I want something that goes beyond just text, rather shows how game design can impact education. The Internet can provide a interactive experience, and I would love to see a website that emulates how child learns in the classroom empowered by game design.

  4. From beginning my interview search, although I found a few that were interesting. I know that an interview will help my my argument become more interesting by making it more real if it comes from a credible source. With evidence it adds taste and excitement to the conflict I am addressing.

  5. I have not had a lot of luck finding interviews that have substance. I tried NPR as suggested above but to no avail. I will continue my search and try to find a print interview. If that doesn't pan out, I will email one of the authors I am using and see if I can get an email interview.
